I'm circumcised and love it. It is cleaner, looks better and it feels great during sex. I'm 18 and at college now and haven't found any girls who have a problem with it. Out of over 30 girls I've slept with this term less than 5 have even commented on it and most of them said it was nicer. I think every boy should be circumcised.”

Boys who have tight foreskins that are still elastic can now be helped by creams and stretching but those with foreskins that are inelastic and scarred by infection and fibrosis are more of a problem and can be made worse by stretching and surgery is an option if your lifestyle is affected.

Just for the record I was born with an extremely tight foreskin and had repeated infections that made my foreskin so tight that urinating was difficult and painful – my father told me that could not leave me like that as I was in agony.

Those of you that are lucky enough to have a foreskin can try clamping it when they urgently need a pee to see how it felt.

It does make a difference. Circumcised penises are less sensitive as the foreskin is the most sensitive part. Also after circumcision the glans dries out and the skin brushes on underwear.

"Wrong", "Strange" - no, it's a cultural/ religious or medical practice, and prevalence has varied by time & place.

Very common in the USA - 90% in the Mid-West; probably 70+% on East Coast; less common in the West & South, but probably still about 50%. Used to be very common in Britain: probably 50% in the 1930s, but far less common today - mainly because the NHS no longer offers it except when medically necessary. BTW, male members of the Royal family tend to be circumcised, and it's still generally quite common among members of the old "upper class" - aristocracy/ gentry.

When I was at (boarding) school (1970s) it was still pretty common: I reckon about 30% of my year were circumcised; the rate was easily 50% for those 5-6 years older. In 6th form I shared a study with two others; not a foreskin between us, and only one of us was Jewish. It was no big deal - you were a "Cavalier" or "Roundhead", and nobody thought much of it either way; just one of those things.

That said, the first time I ever experienced any curiosity/ adverse comment from others was during my first paid job - school holiday work in a dairy. We had to change into issued disposable underwear & cotton overalls before entering the plant proper, and my oh my were there comments about the appearance of my privates! Realised later that most of my fellow dairy workers had never seen such before, and this did surprise me! Have since concluded that as with so much in Britain it's a "class" thing - back then circumcision was relatively common among the educated middle class, but very uncommon among the working class.

There's even an element of this "class differential" in the USA today - most college graduates are circumcised; it's far less common among "blue collar" workers, "redneck/ hillbilly" types, and poor immigrant groups. But again, this can vary - it's becoming fashionable among some incomers as a "marker" of "Americanism". Ironically then, just as some wealthier Americans (mainly in "liberal" states like California & Oregon) are starting to react against routine infant circumcision, it's becoming a "badge of belonging" to some of their newer, and generally poorer, compatriots.

Now adays in Britain circumcision is generally uncommon (except among the obvious religious groups - Jews, Muslims) and, therefore, it's more likely to cause curiosity/ comment. There's also a bit of an on-going anti-circumcision backlash from some in the USA: IMO, much of the material they post on the Internet is just as ludicrous as that posted by the circumcision advocates - believe none of it! For example, it's often claimed circumcision diminishes sexual pleasure because the glans is desensitised. Well, errr...as any fule noes, the average teenage boy will have masturbated hundreds, possibly thousands, of times by the time he actually experiences intercourse for the first time! If that doesn't "desensitise" your knob I don't know what will, and frankly I doubt the sensitivity differential is that great between either group!

So, to conclude, you're not in any way strange because you're circumcised - it is "just one of those things". Yes, among youngsters in Britain today you are unusual, but so what? Have confidence; turn it to your advantage - it's a great talking point with females, and once they've got over their initial surprise/ curiosity girls/ women tend to like it. Have no fear - you'll be fine, and laugh in the face of ignorant fools who think otherwise.”

Im 18 and i have a tight foreskin. This means that i will most likely have to get circumcised. The main problem is that i cant ejaculate during sex but i can during masturbation. If i get circumcised will this mean it will be easier or harder to ejaculate.”

I've had sex with guys who are circumcised and who are not circumcised, it doesn't matter either way.

It's not wrong or strange. It can be for medical reasons or cosmetic reasons.

It makes no difference to your partner. They can still enjoy themselves and won't notice any difference. And from my experience, circumcision does not stop you from enjoying yourself in any sexual way (manual, oral or penetration).

Wh en you become erect the foreskin pulls back so circumcision makes little physical difference. Your partner may not even notice, or care.

An uncircumsised penis is more sensitive than a circumcised penis, but a circumcised penis is still sensitive.

A circumcised penis may be more hygenic because the lack of foreskin means less places for bacteria to hide, but a properly washed penis is equally hygienic.

With regards to STDs & STIs, circumcision is irrelevant. You are as much at risk either way.

I am 15 and circumcised im really worried about having sex or doing stuff with my girlfriend. I tried putting a thread asking wats the percentage in the UK, and didnt work.

It is very strange, that there has been very little discussion about this, Circumcison seems to very emovitve topic, but the benefits, to the person who is circumcised is great. When having sex, there is no need to pull back the foreskin, there is only a little loss of sensation in sex ( as i was done in my 30 i can say that i did not lose any sensation), and the penis is cleaner and some say sexier. I would say it is better for you as you are with all the benfits. Just remember you are not in the minority.”

Circumcision unfortunately damages the penis (literally) no-one can argue that. It's removing the natural tissue that serves the function of preserving the mucosal tissue of the glans (head of the penis.)

Circumcised guys are without the nerve endings contained in the foreskin and the natural lubrication of the glans.

The origins are sort of cloudy, although it's probably rooted in desert tribes as a simple blood sacrifice to the Gods. Studies are hinting that it started in Egypt before it went to the Jews (when it then went to the Muslims).

Circum cision by many is considered a Human Rights issue because its done on babies without their consent. There are pro-circ enthusiasts and fetishists that say it should be the parents choice as well as a few ignorant folk who accept the status quo.

There are also anti-circ people who try to use scare tactics into not circumcising babies.

The point is, it is a human rights issue, people should have a right to their body. Penile and Cervical Cancer studies don't have concrete conclusions with their studies because its epidemiological.

Honestly, its better to be uncut. Screw aesthetics, your body isn't deformed to tell people that its just rude. We should be more accepting and loving of our bodies in general.

I don't think it's true that most women prefer the look of a circumcised penises. I also wouldn't take the advice that it cuts the risk of STIs very seriously.

Circumcision is great, I had to put up with a foreskin until I was 40 then I got circumcised. It was honestly the best thing that ever happened to me, cleaner, looks better and all sex is a thousands times better. I had no problems with my foreskin it was always loose as my mother insisted I retract it and wash behind it when I had a bath as a small child. Pity most mothers today do not do this !!! I am now 75 and still think circumcision should be more widespread. It's very common in the States-the norm actually, but not so much in the UK. In the States, it's the opposite situation-with uncircumcised penises being considered "strange". Women may or may not have a preference one over the other-I don't though, for personal info. As long as it doesn't bother you (no problems physically or emotionally) you're good to go. Although in Britain it isn't all that common, it really isn't a big deal. Jewish and Muslim boys tend to be circumcised as babies, while other men may have it done for medical reasons. In the US, the majority of men are circumcised, as many hospitals would perform circumcision at birth for all babies.

I was circumcised when i was 11 for medical reasons, my foreskin was too tight and caused urine infections. I think it's wrong to circumcise children for religious reasons. I'm glad i'm circumcised as It looks much neater, it doesn't smell, no build up to clean out and women love it. When i was a teenager (i'm 29 now) people thought it was weird or meant you were jewish so i didn't tell anyone i was circumcised. I assumed they were just stupid and didn't know any better, i was right. Teenagers are ill informed and many adults don't seem to know there are medical reasons for circumcision. Some girls will be confused as they haven't seen one before and you may find they don't know how to handle it because they are used to having a lot more skin to play with, just teach them. after the first few fumblings you'll find that experienced women often prefer it as having an ever clean penis deefinitely has it's advantages ;)”

My ex boyfriend wasn't circumcised but my current boyfriend is circumcised and honestly it makes no difference when having sex etc - so don't worry on that front. I openly asked him about it as he was comfortable to talk about it and it was simply because his parents decided when he was younger that they wanted him to be circumcised.

circumcision is actually quite common. it's written in many religions(Islam and Jewdaism) that a boy should be circumcised(this originally was for practical reasons as these religions established in desert like communities where water could be rare it was to stay clean without wasting water and therefore not getting infections) his practical reason is still a good one- it does mean that you find you don't need to wash your penis as much but you still need to make sure you clean it throughly as some skin can still be left and dirt can get caught. more and more people out of any religion that states it are also getting circumcised.it's not an uncommon thing so don't worry i actually know girls that prefer circumcised guys!”

Circumcision is becoming less common in countries where it was often performed (like America) and in places like Canada and Holland there are more laws in place to make it harder for doctors to perform the operations on minors.

People generally think its wrong (to do on babies) because 1) The penis belongs to the boy, not the parents or doctors, "Its his body, its his choice", choosing to have it done as an adult seems to be the way things are moving.

2) Research shows the foreskin has a function and isn't just "skin" hanging off the end. Its sensitive and specialist.

I too am circumcised. It is one of the oldest and most common surgeries in the world and it really is quite normal. In the USA about 80% of all men are cirucmised so there it is very common. Your penis will stay clean and maintenance free, it is far easier to keep a condom on during sex and the head of your penis flares outwards more because it is not restrained with a foreskin. Many girls like the pronounced ridge and because it is always clean you might get more oral sex from them as there is nothing slimy on the end of it and it always smells cleaner too. One issue is that if you masturbate you might need some lubrication to make it more comfortable. Enjoy what you have.”
