Hi,i had unprotected sex 12 years

Thrush? foreskin sore, inflamed, flaky(dry) with small cuts that are quite painful could have a bacterial infection called balanitis. I had this myself and like many people I first thought that it was thrush. Thrush cream soothed but did not get rid of the problem. You need an antibiotic ointment, like Bactroban (also called mupirocin) or Fucidin (also called fucidic acid), then applying one of these three times a day would be worth a try. The ointment both keeps the foreskin soft and more pliable, and the antibiotic treats the infection.”

Fordyce's spots
These are small painless and harmless bumps that form naturally beneath the penis, which can look a bit like a spot or pimple. They do not require any form of medical treatment. You may not like the look of them but they are not doing any harm, so it is advised that you leave well enough alone.

Pearly Penile Papules
Another possible cause for the white spots on your penis could be the amusingly named pearly penile papules (you may laugh, but their other name is Hirsuties Papillaris Genitalis!). While maybe not quite as fun as their name may suggest these spots are harmless and occur naturally, so you shouldn’t worry too much. In this case the spots are likely to be small, rounded and possibly flesh-toned. They occur naturally and, like Fordyce’s spots, do not require treatment… especially not homemade!

Genital Warts
Our third suspect is the very common human papilloma virus (HPV) also known as genital warts, due to the appearance of small cauliflower-like white or pink lumps.

HPV is the only potential cause in this brief list that is gained through skin-to-skin sexual contact with somebody that already has the virus – even if they do not have visible warts. It is also possible that, if you have the virus, you could also now pass it on through sexual contact. However, do not be alarmed. HPV is a treatable sexually-transmitte d infection (STI), but it must be dealt with by a doctor who may offer one of several treatments ranging from creams to simple laser surgery. ”

The worst thing anyone can do is hope a problem goes away. Any difference you notice you shouldn't ignore as sometimes the symptoms go away but the problem remains. Please be brave and go and see your GP or even better a sexual health clinc. These people have seen more willy's and girly bits then they can shake a stick at so although it isnt a pleasant experience you will feel x100 better once its done and 99% of things are cleared up by simple antibiotics - if you get them in time”

Please please always use a condom even with somebody you feel you can trust until you have both been tested and know for sure you are very much in love and have been together for many years.

When I was 12 or 13 I developed clusters of spots around the corona of my penis. Even though I wasn't sexually active I worried about these for about three years before going to a STI clinic. I was told that the spots weren't and infection but a harmless and common condition called penile papules. Even so, I was given no more information and worried about how ugly they appeared to me. I am surprised that shows like yours never appear to talk about penile papules, which although benign can make you feel like your penis is disfigured and affect your confidence and self esteem.”

One of my first sexual encouters with a girlfriend about 13 years ago gave my an STI. We wore a condom and she was a very clean living girl and so was I.. I had never had unprotected sex before and hadn't up until it was diagnosed several years later. I had HPV or Genital Warts. She still showed no symptoms and only by test after I contacted her years later did she confirm that she was a carrier. Its quite common if not the most common STI. The point being that some STI's are transmitted by skin to skin contact and even when wearing a condom your not totally protected. it hasn't re-occured since but you can't get rid of the virus...”

I have these spots and i looked them up on many websites and they are called Fordyce Spots (mentioned in a previous post). They are nothing to worry about, but can cause some embarasement during sex but they are painless and won't cause any problems at all. Hope this helps.”

To those who are getting or have white spots on your penises:

The "spots" you are talking about are usually white/cream color and are smooth little domes in your skin. Inside these is basically a "pus" like substance which is made up of a breakdown of skin tissue products, which includes sebum, keratin.

They are generally harlmless and give no problems to anyone, the larger ones can on occassion become infected, this is nothing to worry about and simply washing can get rid of the infection.

If they are red, inflamed, sore or you have any concers the only way to make sure that they are harmless and you are in perfect health is to visit your local GP, If your doctor is female and you would like to see a male doctor, just ask they should be fine with this.”

hi guys i would just like to say that you should not confuse fordyce spots with an STI. Fordyce spots are white or yellow raised bumps about 1 to 3 mm large, about 9o percent of men get them so they are common and normal. In some cases they have been known to fade.

For David...Some spots which appear under the foreskin simply could be thrush. Penile thrush is common and can be treated with a cream. To be sure see a doctor. Thrush is a fungal infection and is fairly harmless and can re-occur.”

i have sebaceous prominence. its where you get lots of tiny little spots all over the underside of the penis and scrotum. its not contagious so cant be passed on and is not an STI or STD or anything like that but alot of people think it is. perhaps you should make it clear that having spots on the penis isnt always a sign that you have an infection or something wrong. people that have this problem suffer from huge confidence problems and will often shy away from sexual opportunities. its something that often doesnt go away at all ever. its not only common in men but also women.”

Hi, i'm a medical student and have a particular interest in sexual health so thought I could offer some advice here. Men should start to have regular sexual health screenings as soon as they become sexually active, and continue to do so regularly (say every 6 months), if they have multiple casual partners.

The video shown above is not indicative of all STI screening tests. A swab of the penis is performed only if the patient is experiencing symptoms, such as a rash or pain when urinating. In an asymptomatic individual, the test would invovle a urine sample for chlamydia and gonorrhea and a blood test for HIV and syphillis. Swabs are taken from the throat to to test for bacterial infection, and may also be taken from the anus in men who have sex with men.

I think the idea of a penis swab puts many men off having a screening so I thought there might be some reassurance that this is only performed if you have symptoms. Also, it is likely that the pain experienced by some men during a urethral swab is caused by irritation of an inflamed area due to existing infection.

I work for the national chlamydia screening programme in sussex and found your programme very informative. We need to raise the awareness of chlamydia, and the way it is easily tested for and treated. Any information would be greatly recieved or any promotional posters from NHS to do with this, as our budget is really low, and we are desperatly seeking ways to wipe this STi out. We attend Gp's, Youth groups, drop in centres, colleges, and even shopping malls and fresher fair's. We are here to help not judge, to educate not humiliate.”

My boyfriend and I both got negative results from STI tests only for me to display symptoms and test positive for chlamydia a few weeks later and my boyfriend then to test positive also. I trust my boyfriend completely and I know that I hadn't been with anyone else in that time, I think that it is important to raise the point that there is such a thing as false negative and it's not always possible to determine fault and even if you think you're clean if you display any symptoms just go check again.”

I'm 17 and I got tested for everything a few months ago after not using the condom a few times, so just to be sure I didn't catch anything. All the tests were painless and quick, and the nurse was really friendly and fully explained everything she did. It's just a bit odd lying on a bed half naked and having your bits touched by a stranger, but you'll be relieved you've done it when the tests come back all clear. The only highly annoying and embarrassing bit for me was getting a full erection during the examination, but the nurse just said it was normal and just made getting a swab easier.”

Hi, I came to know about channel 4 in one of the video. I have done sex with many of the ladies, but i use 2 condoms whenever i do intercourse. So, let me know is it safe or not. And also daily i clean my penis with herbal soap. Not only that when i complete my intercourse i clean my penis with soap or with urine in worst case. Let me know if i get any Sexually transmitted disease or not. I like the doctor who has explained about penis. I learnt more from that video.”

I had the full check up, I have to say personally I found it painful and my penis was stinging for sometime afterwards, is this normal? I didn't have any STI's down below thankfully, it was good to get checked up, but it was for me painful.”

I've tried to get a STI checkup. My Doctors surgury dont do them & you get told to go to a GUM clinic. And the GUM clinic wont test for everything, especially wont test for Genital Herpes. Even if you might be a carrier & never had the symptoms.
So I like to know how your show tells us to get tested if the NHS wont do it?”
