When the foreskin of the penis is tight or doesn't retract, it is called Phismosis. This can be responsible for discomfort retracting the foreskin when erect and in extreme cases when flacid (semi-erect). Due to this it can be responsible for sexual discomfort, or maby pain whilst masturbating. This can be easily treated by reguarly restracting the foreskin as far as you can, with an erection, whilst bathing. You should notice gradual improvements. After 6-8 weeks of regular retraction your foreskin should freely retract whilst erect. ”

dave- yes you will lower your sperm count but only temporarily.
and anyone asking about failure to get an erection when trying to have sex, the key thing is not to worry about it. Being nervous makes it harder to get an erection so being embarrased about it isn't going to help. To help you relax the best thing to do would be to tell your partner that you feel nervous and it's stopping you from getting an erection. (Also waiting to have sex and getting to know your partner better can make you more relaxed. ) It's much better if she knows why than thinking that you don't like her (one way to tell her this is that you're only nervous because she is so pretty ;) !). If she has an issue about you being nervous then in my opinion she's probably not worth having sex with! But seriously...the worst thing to do is to hide your problems from her.”

penis size length or width doesnt matter. Those of you who are scared of hurting your gfs just take it slow and make sure she knows shes under no pressure so she can relax. Anything over 3 inches when errect is classed as normal.

white spots on the penis are normal, as is still having forskin during an erection

as for the 13/15 year olds you really dont need to be worrying about size or not enjoying masterbation. your body is still changing,so chill out!

Tight foreskins while erect are quite common, if you have only just started puberty then don't worry this is totally normal. If puberty has finished and foreskin is still tight you might have phimosis. This is treatable but you have to pluck up the courage to see your GP which can be very difficult.”

Ok well, just a little curious/concerned about this. My foreskin usually covers the glands of my penis around 3/4 when erect, it seems a little tight but can easily be pulled back when soft or erect free of pain. I'll answer a few questions here:

Regarding spots around the glans ('bellend') they are more than likely Pearly Penile Papules (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearly_penile_papu... which are entirely normal and not an STD or anything freaky.

At age 13, 14 or 15 your penis has not finished growing so you should not be concerned about size. 5 to 6 inches (12 to 15cm) is a perfectly average size as discussed in the 'Penis' video on this site (http://sexperienceuk.channel4.com/education/abo...

Spots on the shaft of the penis and foreskin are probably Fordyce's spots ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fordyce's_spot) and again are entirely natural and not any form of disease.

You all seem to be very worried, but don't, i have had pretty much all three worries, first ejaculating clear liquid is fine, it will become thicker and whiter with age i'm 18 now and only started producing properly when i was 15. Spots/tiny bumps on the penis shaft and balls, again it is normal to have these, i'm 18 and it never seemed to bother me until recently but again it is fine absolutely normal. And finally foreskin, i can pull mine back when flacid but when erect it will not come back more than half way, i am yet to check with my GP but i believe it is called 'phimosis' there are different ways to sort this, you can try over time gradually stretching the foreskin, usually in warm water about 2 minutes a day twice a day, there are topical steroids and creams you can use but need to see a GP, or more radically you can have various operations, either on the frenulum, anotherwhere the make a small incision in the foreskin to allow it to retract or a circumcision. I was always so worried about this and its great that theres now such a big place to discuss these things, i had to ask about 20 of my friends and only two of them had the same problem. But dont worry it can be sorted and you are not the only one out there!”

Hi lads, I've read some of the posts, and as a bloke who's more than 10 years older than most of you (27) I feel like I should respond to some of your comments because I remember being worried about them too.

Penis size: The average is 5.5 inches but forget about the average. It is completely true to say that it's more about the way you use it than how long it is!!! Seriously, remember that girls might watch a bit of porn but generally (because they're more grown up than blokes!) they're not expecting you to have a 8 or 10 inch donkey cock! Honestly, if a girl has actually seen a few penises in her life, she will think anything above 6 or 7 inches is BIG and to be honest, anything above 8 inches might even frighten her!!! Big cocks might look good, but they don't always do the business, in fact most women will not achieve orgasm from a penis penetrating their vagina (no matter what size it is) so you should be thinking about how to give the woman pleasure (oral sex is usually the best way but ask her!!!) rather than worrying about the size of your dick. Basic ally what I'm trying to say is don't worry about how you measure up to other guys, because for all you know when they have an erection they might have a smaller penis than you. And hey, even if they do have a bigger penis, they might not know how to please a girl as well as you do. And certainly don't measure yourself up to porn stars because most girls would run a mile before they let a 10 inch cock near them (no matter what they say!). I'm a 31 year old man and feel kind of nervous speaking about a problem that I've had during sex. Hopefully, this isn't just a forum for younger men to get sexual advice and can maybe give some advice in the certain area that I'm worried about.
Well, the problem is with not being able to climax during sex. It is a massive problem that I've always had! I've been masturbating since I was maybe 10 or 11 years old and can reach climax pretty quickly with in a few minutes, but when it comes to sex, I find that I can't ejaculate during sex... Okay, a few of the times I have had an orgasm with out even ejaculating which makes the female feel that I was actually faking it; even though I've tried being open and honest about the problem. It's caused the end of a the few relationships that I've had because it's got nothing to do with whether I can make them climax, but if I can't, they seem to think that they are doing something wrong and makes them feel bad about themselves. I know it may sound stupid to some people, but when you can get someone to climax a hell of a lot more often than they've managed to make you, it add's to so many more problems. Especially when it's a guy with a woman. My last girlfriend has had so many more sexual relationships than me and she ended up feeling unwanted by me because of it. It's sort of expected by women that they won't climax every time during sex, but if it's the guy that's doing it and saying that he's just happy to help them achieve climax - and I was happy - it ends up breaking down the relationship. It took me over 3 months of having sex with her before I could reach a climax that resulted in ejaculation and I think it's got to be some sort of psychological problem with me.
I'm reluctant to even speak about it the problem with any of my friends. It's sort of the reverse about taking about premature ejaculation, but almost sounds like I'm boasting about the fact that women have usually climaxed before me during sex in around 95% of my sexual relationships.
I used to think that it might have been down to me not exactly having the biggest penis, but I worked out that being on average to be between 5.5 and 5.75 inches in length means that I have sort of an average length penis.

Some pointers:

1. Masturbating doesn't make you infertile no matter how many times you do it. It does temporarily lower your sperm count the more times you do it consecutively though (obviously you don't hav an infinite amount of sperm and your body needs time to make more.

2. Foreskin coverage varies a lot. I think most guys' foreskins automatically peel back when erect. Other people's only go halfway down or don't move at all. This is only an issue if you cannot retract the foreskin at all and/or if there is pain.

If that is the case then ask your doctor about stretching exercises that you can do to increase the mobility of the foreskin. Some bad doctors will recommend a circumcision but that is seldom necessary. Steroid cream helps with the stretching exercises. You can also google for information if you feel that your foreskin is too tight.

3. On the topic of porn...if you actually watch enough porn then most are really quite average or not that much bigger than average. There are a few 'stars' who are selected because of their size.

For a better perspective you should look in a lockeroom although understandably that's not ideal.

Sperm consistency also varies a lot. As long as there is no pain when you ejaculate or blood in your semen then it is fine. Colours from white to yellow to brown have all been referred to as "normal"

PS average penis size is around 5.5" (14-15cm) long and 4.75" (12-12.5cm).”

Here are some thoughts about recent posts:

ref. Alex on 22nd December. It sounds as if your foreskin is too tight to go back once your glans (bell end / knob) has become bigger when your penis erects. Regular gentle stretching of your foreskin using a skin cream could be the answer, but it may take time. Don't ever force it and wash your hands before. You will probably need to be patient, judging from other people's experience.

ref. andy on 23rd December. It sounds as if you are still growing so don't worry about the size. If by "can't come" when you masturbate you mean you get the feeling but don't get any sperm, that again is probably just a matter of time. Puberty hits people at different ages and some will be starting even later so don't worry!

ref. alex on 1st January. If the throbbing is uncomfortable or painful you ought to see your doc and get referred to a urologist. If you masturbate 1 to 4 times a day, your cum will sometimes be runny and see through because your body hasn't had enough time to make thick white stuff. Don't worry.

ref: Matt on 2nd January. I looked this up. If your frenulum is too short, you could try gentle regular stretching it, but don't force it! (If you make it bleed you may get scar tissue and that could make things worse.) If that doesn't work after a few months, you might think of going to the doc and being referred to a urologist. Apparently about 5% of guys with foreskins suffer from this, so you are far from being alone! There's a small operation called a frenuloplasty which would deal with the problem without going for a circumcision.

re f. oliver on 7th January: A foreskin makes no difference to the size of your penis although some people have a rather long foreskin which extends well beyond the knob (which I guess could get in the way). The main part of your penis - won't be smaller because you have no foreskin.

ref. shawn on 14th January: Size of testicles varies a lot and it is unlikely it will affect your fertility. If you just want bigger balls I haven't heard of any way that can be achieved. I really wouldn't worry if I were you. If it all works ok, forget it!

ref. Adam on 19th January: Your foreskin may be a bit tight, or the strip joining it to the underneath of your glans (the frenulum) may be a little short. Either way you could try regular gentle stretching, but be gentle and patient. (and see comments to Matt on 2/1 above)

Various messages about spots. Loads of guys get small white spots on their scrotums and usually the bottom part of the penis shaft (i.e. nearest your scrotum). These are like other little spots one can get and are quite normal and harmless. However, if you are still worried or you have a different type of spot, especially if it gets worse or changes appearance (rather than having always been there) you should go to the doc to make quite sure it is ok, just as you would with that sort of spot anywhere else on your body.

Maybe these thoughts will help some who have posted recently:

1. Henry on 13th November. You can only get rid of smegma (the white stuff which forms naturally and collects under your foreskin) by washing it away. Should be done every day at least once. Circumcision means that you won't have a foreskin for it to build up under. If you don't want to be circumcised, you should pull your foreskin back to wash underneath it. You need to get it down past the rim of your glans (knob / bell-end) and clean all around including behind the rim. Always have clean hands and if you use soap, be sure to rinse it all off. (The above can only apply to people who have a foreskin which can easily be pulled back.)

2. Rory on 13th November. The colour of your glans (penis head) is not a problem from what you say. Glans colour varies greatly and will change according to your state, i.e. whether excited or not and in the excited state it will usually darken as more blood is pumped into your penis. I would say it's nothing to do with your method of masturbating and nothing to worry about.

3. Jay on 17th November. There are different sizes of condom you can get. Durex Avanti are a bit larger than the normal and may suit you.

4. Dan on 23rd November. Lots of penises are a bit bent. Quite normal. Your size is ok too - a lot of adults make do with a five inch erection. Don't worry either about having one testicle down at the moment - whatever happens, you only need one to produce sperm and you should have no problems producing kids.

5. Tyler on 25th November. To masturbate 3 times a day at age 17 is not abnormal, though some will do it less (and some, more).”

Hi guys, Just hoping I can clear up a few insecurities. I worried a lot as a teen as I seemed small and didn’t seem to be going through puberty at all. I didn’t really start puberty till about 17 and it was a fairly long process, hair came first around my penis, then under arms about 18, on chest about 19. My penis grew slowly and I worried for a long time as it is only 5.5” however I want to assure people this is normal, with the average being around 5-6”. As a side note I also worried about the fact I am gay and how to tell people, it turned out all to be a worry over nothing as everyone was fine with it (even my parents). Excellent and much needed series - congratulations.

There seem to be a lot of guys with tight / non-retracting foreskins. I think this is complicated: Penises vary very much in shape and size, length / tightness of foreskins. Some retract normally on erection, while others remain over the glans when erect, but will be pushed back either manually or on penetration. These are all "normal". Unretractable foreskins fall into (at least) two categories: 1. where the foreskin opening is too narrow and 2. where the frenulum (the strip of skin joing the foreskin to the underneath of the glans) is too short. In the first category, there is another possible complication: The glans (penis head) in some guys expands quite a lot in the lead-up to ejaculation (in others it hardly expands at all, but both are quite normal) and a guy who can retract his foreskin when his penis is erect may find it impossible to do so when his glans expands even more, before he cums.

I knew three guys who had problems. One had a short frenulum (but it didn't seem to trouble him too much) and the other two had foreskins with too narrow openings. My guess is (and from reading comments) these can often be eased by gentle exercises. Knowing how embarrassed guys are about these things (and how ignorant GP's can be!) and the importance of keeping clean around the glans, how about publishing some "do it at home" help on the website?”

I also have the same problem as Tom, Corey and others, my foreskin appears to be too small for my head and trying to pull back when erect is painful. Is there any sort of treatment for this which will help it to come out without pain or is circumcision the only option?

If left it will get worse. stretching it by yourself will only caus pain and could lead to more damage such as a tear or loss of circulation. see a doctor...theyve seen it all before!!! nothing to be worried about. and if you do get circumcised, again, its nothing to be worried about!”

I have the same problem as Cory and Daniel. My foreskin just seems too tight... I have managed to get it back only a couple of times when soft to clean, it seems to get less sensitive the more I do it, but I'm worried.

And repeat for a few weeks 1-2 times a day. It's my problem. I really want to help alleviate the stress men suffer over penis size because I've learnt a lot about myself and feel so much better about myself now.
For all those guys out there who worry about their penis because its not "big", especially the younger lads, consider this.
Chances are you're 5 - 6 inches like me; so even being in the lower range of the "average size" probably still bothers you. Don't let it because there's nothing wrong with having an average penis. Check it: I'm 30 now and I worried about it way too much; even though most of my 50 or so partners over the years were clearly very (very;) satisfied. I wondered: "How come I can satisfy all these women when I read all the time that size matters?" There could only be 1 answer: "It's not my penis, its the man its attached to". So my message to you all:
Learn to use it guys, and learn to use it well. Be passionate about satisfying your woman and I guarantee you size will not matter. Self proclaimed "size queens" have their own issues, you don't need them. Ask most women and they'll agree: an average penis attached to a good lover is worth more than a large penis.”

I remember reading that having a foreskin reduced your risk of HIV due to the bacteria that live on the glans having an adverse affect on the HIV virus! No skin and the normal healthy bacteria die leaving you open to increased risk!

The reason circumcised penises are said to be better in regard to HIV and AIDS is that due to more contact with material in underwear etc. the skin has become tougher and due to this is less likely to develop micro-tears. These microscopic tears are invisible to the human eye. They are more common on penises with a forskin as the skin is softer and not as tough. Micro-tears allow a passage directly to blood supply and so increase the chance of the transmission of AIDS or HIV.
As to sensitivity, I've found it made really very little difference, I had it done when I was 15 as my foreskin was simply too small. I've found women in England sometimes find it odd but do like it and come to prefer it. My girlfriend think smy penis looks much nicer when flaccid as she thinks foreskins are weird looking. Sex is a slower build up (I only had sex once before the opperation.) Masturbation is just as pleasurable as well.”

I'm a 21 male who has some insecurities regarding my penis. I am not small and have been told by some past sexual partners that i am fairly large, but this doesn't stop me thinking otherwise. I have just finished university and am in a rather serious relationship where my partner and I enjoy a pretty good sex life. However she is still at university and i am now starting to feel insecure again because i feel like she may be tempted to explore with other men ( as i was her first sexual partner). I thoroughly trust my girlfriend, but the millions of stories and comments made throughout adult society and more specifically the female targetted media(ie magazines such as cosmo) have led me to feel somewhat insuperior to other men. I know the ongoing debate of 'Does size matter?' will always be around, but i'm not quite sure that women understand how such discussions can place pressure upon men and their penis's. I know that within male dominated media forms (such as FHM), males discuss the sizes of female breasts, and this can be just as affective in lowering females self confidence. As a male who has had his fair share of previous sexual experiences, i genuinely cannot understand why size (whether it be for female or male parts) plays such a crutial role within sex. The one thing that trully drives me mad is the pressure it places upon millions of relationships, because some couples who are very happy, become turbulant because of such insecurities caused by the media focus on the size of certain parts of the body. I must own up that such insecurities is starting to pose a threat to my partner and i, and i wish to resolve this issue before it becomes to late, however am unsure on what can help my situation.”

When a man is circumcised it removes close to 25 square inches of the most dense nerve laid area of the male body. Thousands of nerve endings are permanetly severed. Why didn't find out why the major outlets (Boots, supermarkets and vending machine stockists) stock 30 different condoms, but not a single large one? I can't use regular condoms at all, and Mates condoms (the most common in vending machines) won't even go over my glans. It's not as if I'm freakishly large either - according to a survey by Durex, my girth is in the top 15%. That means that at least 1 in 7 men experience my problems with condoms.

The programme's comment on circumcised men having less sensitivity is a misleading fallacy! It is usually propounded by those circumcised at birth. The greatest majority of men circimcised as adults who have known both states report on sensitivity being different but equally satisfying. There is a slower build up to orgasm with greater control but the end result is equally satisfying if not better. The loss of the frenulum does not remove the nerves from the underlying area so this specially sensitive area is not destroyed. The complete exposure of the glans and corona gives additional sensitivity for both partners. There are also the benefits of hygiene and the resistance (as yet unproved)to HIV and other STD's.”
